3. Authorized User Accounts
Another way to repair your credit using a credit card relies on the generosity of a friend or relative
you trust.
If you can find someone who is willing to add you to an account as an “authorized user,” you can
use the credit line but you are not responsible for repaying the charges. The account holder must request that your name be added to the account and can ask that a card be issued in your name. Once your name is on the account, information about the account will probably be added to your file—and
you’ll be listed as an authorized user.
Of course, because the information concerning the account is reported in your credit file, this technique requires that the account holder not default. If she does, that information will appear in your credit report—exactly what you don’t want.
